Indonesia installs weather stations across the country to improve weather monitoring capabilities

The Indonesian government officially announced the deployment of a new batch of weather stations across the country. These weather stations will be equipped with a variety of weather monitoring equipment such as wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, humidity and air pressure, aiming to strengthen the monitoring capabilities of climate change and extreme weather events.

In recent years, Indonesia and surrounding areas have been severely affected by climate change and natural disasters, including floods, droughts and severe storms. In order to improve the early warning capabilities of these weather changes, the Indonesian Meteorological, Climate and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) decided to implement this weather station installation plan.

The newly installed weather stations use advanced technology to monitor key meteorological data such as wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, humidity and air pressure in real time. These data will not only provide strong support for multiple industries such as agriculture, transportation, aviation and marine transportation, but also help the government formulate more scientific and effective natural disaster response measures.

The head of the Indonesian Meteorological Bureau said: “With the establishment of this meteorological monitoring network, we will be able to predict weather changes more accurately and issue weather warnings in advance, thereby providing better services to the public and relevant departments and effectively reducing the losses caused by climate disasters.”

In addition, the government also plans to raise public awareness of weather changes through public education and publicity, and encourage residents to participate in meteorological monitoring activities. For example, through mobile phone applications, people can obtain real-time weather information and warning notifications in their area.

With the commissioning of these weather stations, Indonesia will become more efficient in responding to climate change and extreme weather events, enhance the country’s capabilities in the field of meteorological monitoring, and lay the foundation for building a safer future.
