In the global renewable energy sector, Chile is once again at the forefront. Recently, Chile’s Ministry of Energy announced an ambitious plan to install advanced fully automated solar direct scattering sensor trackers across the country to optimize solar power efficiency and promote the transformation of the country’s energy structure. This initiative marks an important step in the innovation and application of renewable energy technologies in Chile.
Chile has abundant solar energy resources, especially in the northern Atacama Desert region, where the solar radiation intensity is extremely high. In recent years, the Chilean government has actively promoted the development of renewable energy, aiming to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and achieve the goal of 70% renewable energy by 2050. However, the efficiency of solar power generation is affected by many factors, among which the variation of direct and scattered solar radiation is one of the key factors.
In order to capture solar energy more accurately and improve the efficiency of power generation, Chile’s Ministry of Energy has decided to deploy fully automatic direct solar scattering sensor trackers at major solar power stations across the country.
The project is being implemented by the Chilean Ministry of Energy in cooperation with several leading international solar technology companies. The project plans to install more than 500 fully automated direct solar scattering sensor trackers in solar power stations across the country within three years. These devices will monitor changes in solar radiation in real time and transmit the data to a central control system.
The sensor tracker automatically adjusts the Angle to optimally capture direct and scattered solar radiation. With this data, solar power stations can adjust the orientation and Angle of solar panels in real time to ensure maximum utilization of solar energy resources.
The project uses the latest Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Sensors transmit data via a wireless network to a cloud platform, and AI algorithms will analyze the data to provide real-time power generation efficiency and optimization recommendations. In addition, the data analysis team will analyze long-term data to assess the distribution and change trends of solar energy resources in different regions, and provide a scientific basis for the siting and construction of future solar power stations.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Chile’s Minister of Energy said: “This innovative project will significantly improve our solar power efficiency and promote the transformation of the country’s energy structure. By monitoring and optimizing the use of solar radiation in real time, we can increase electricity generation, reduce energy waste, and reduce the cost of electricity generation. This is not only an important breakthrough in renewable energy technology, but also a key step towards achieving our Sustainable Development Goals.”
The Chilean Solar Industry Association praised the project. The president of the association said: “The application of fully automatic direct solar scattering sensor trackers will make our solar power stations more intelligent and efficient. This will not only help improve the efficiency of power generation, but also enhance the stability and reliability of solar power generation, providing a strong guarantee for Chile’s energy security.”
As the project progresses, Chile plans to expand the application of fully automated solar direct scattering sensor trackers to more solar power stations in the next few years, and gradually introduce other advanced renewable energy technologies, such as wind, water and energy storage systems. The application of these technologies will further increase the proportion of renewable energy in Chile and promote the green transformation of the national energy structure.
Chile’s innovative initiatives in the field of renewable energy not only bring new development opportunities for the country, but also provide a model for other countries and regions around the world. Through scientific and technological innovation, Chile is moving towards a greener, smarter and more sustainable future.
